Nutrition and Yoga

Nutrition is something i am very passionate about! I am often questioned about my nutritional choices and usually people just don’t understand. I see my nutritional choice as a lifestyle choice but often people will say “what diet you are on.” Diet is a word i really dislike! Diets are something you plan to do short term with a short term goal in mind for example, getting your beach body ready before a holiday. Being healthy is a lifestyle choice, and something you do long term that is inline with and helps you work towards your purpose.
5 years ago i chose to become vegetarian. It was something i did over night and for me that worked best. But i think for most people it is easier to ween off meat products slowly. 8 months ago i became vegan and it seems to be harder for people to understand. My grandma freaks out when i go over for dinner, she seems to think i don’t eat anything and has no idea what to feed me. The changes i have felt are extremely positive. I feel full of energy and never get that bloated/over full feeling after a meal.
I feel that, for me, living a healthy lifestyle and being vegetarian are inline with the yamas and niyamas. The lifestyle choice is a perfect match with yoga. At the end of the day, everyone is different and what works best for you is something you have to work out on your own. I found talking to like-minded people, doing my own research and really listening to my body allows me to do what serves me best.
