“Yoga is a dance between control and surrender–between pushing and letting go–and when to push and when to let go becomes part of the creative process, part of the open-ended exploration of your being.” -Joel Kramer
I like this quote that I found searching for different ‘yoga passages’ on the internet. The reason I can connect with this saying is because not only does it refer to yoga but it can be related to your everyday life with your relationships with other people. For instance, any individual that is in a committed relationship will understand there are moments to just listen, not every comment needs a response. Coming from an Italian family, listening is something that I have had to train myself to do. Therefore learning to listen and letting go of the urge to say what is on the mind is so important. As the quote says it’s a dance between control and surrender, so for me, speaking is the control and the listening is the surrender.
I also can relate to this quote in my own yoga practice. There are some days I like using blocks, straps, and blankets in my practice. Not everyday is the same and I try to meet my body where it is that day. There are days one should push themselves to concur their fears and there are other days that letting go, listening to the body feels so empowering. The reason it feels empowering is because you are in control of your body. Not everyday needs to be a challenge, it’s OK to surrender, it becomes part of the process, there’s always tomorrow.
There are many ways to interpret this quote, which is why quotes are so interesting. – NC
