Balancing my dosha

During our yoga theory class today, we touched on the topic of Ayurveda, which is the ancient knowledge of life. It is believed that there are 3 types of doshas (body type): Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, which  are derived from the five elemens: fire, water, earth, air, and space, that governs our physical and mental processes. Our doshas are inherited from our parents, and can be affected by climate, and our lifestyle.

 

After completing an Ayurvedic dosha mini test, I found out that my scores where quite close, but I am predominately pitta dosha.

We talked more about each body type, and I was advised to eat more cooling foods, and fruits and vegetables, such as cucumbers, coconuts, watermelon, and salads. I should also avoid consuming too much stimulants, fried, or spicy foods. With fire as one of the element in pitta dosha, we tend to be more aggressive and competitive. It is important then to cultivate self control, and engage in calming activities, such as mediation, yoga, or spending time in nature.
