Restorative Yoga bridges the gap
between mind and body. Involving gentle, passive stretching of the
body while supported by yoga props such as bolsters, blankets, and
eye pillows, it is a calming and therapeutic style of yoga for
students of all levels.
Restorative yoga deepens the relaxation
response, balances the nervous system, and reduces stress, anxiety,
and insomnia. Its long holds promote the healing of soft tissue
injuries and the deep opening of hips, back, and shoulders. It also
helps to release stress and enhance the effects of conscious
relaxation.
In this workshop we will learn the art
of restorative yoga. We will learn how to practice the basic
restorative yoga poses, and how to assist students in each pose. We
will also review restorative yoga sequences for injuries, pregnancy,
anxiety and insomnia, depression, and other therapeutic needs.*
Students taking this course will be
awarded a 4-hour certificate, and will be given the opportunity to
assist in the class.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is the
classical ancient Indian treatise on the practice of Yoga. While
Yoga conjures up images of bodily postures and stretches in popular
western culture, this aspect of yoga, the asanas, is only the third
limb of the eight limbs outlined in the Yoga Sutras - and, indeed,
Patanjali pays only passing attention to this aspect of the system.
This seminar series will consist of a
close reading of Patanjali’s original text, focusing on the opening
section of the work, wherein Yoga is defined and the state of
samadhi, liberation, described, as well as on the eight limbs of
yoga covered in the heart of the text, which outline the step by
step methods for attaining this enlightened state. Attention will be
paid to the pre-modern commentaries of the text, thus exposing
students to the traditional understanding of the practice of
classical Yoga and its goals. Students are advised to bring any copy
of the Sutras which has the Sanskrit text in romanized script as
attention will be focused on the original source rather than its
westernized manifestation.
Students taking this course will be
awarded a 4-hour certificate.

Partner yoga is for everyone - we
define "partner" as someone you are close to: friend, roommate,
spouse, life partner, sibling, parent, child, etc. Practice this
unique form of yoga where you and your partner work together to
accomplish all the poses. Partner yoga fully integrates both
partners into every pose, sometimes doing the same pose together,
and sometimes practicing complimentary poses that intertwine.
Partner yoga teaches us interdependency and trust, along with
laughter and joy. Along with poses, we explore some breathing
techniques and discussion on the application of yoga principles to
all of your relationships. This workshop is fun, challenging, and
deeply rewarding. We hope you can join us to experience our favorite
application of yoga.

Power Yoga is a general term to describe a vigorous, fitness-based
approach to yoga postures done in a non-stop sequence. It
encompasses physical strength, muscular endurance, stamina,
flexibility and balancing ability.
The origin of Power Yoga came from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, a renowned
Sanskrit scholar who inspired Western Yogis with his Ashtanga Yoga
style and philosophies. The series requires more than physical
endurance, it demands discipline, mental stability and
concentration. Power Yoga is modified from the Ashtanga Yoga style
to be more accessible for common people.
What will be covered in this 4 hr workshop?
• Basis and fundamentals of Power Yoga (Theory)
• Practicing Beginners’ Series
• Practicing Intermediate Series
• Evaluation and discussion on the effects, benefits and its
application.
• Compare and contrast with Traditional Yoga
Who can attend?
Anyone who have been practicing yoga or exercising regularly,
without any medical condition that would prevent them from safely
practicing the sequences. (e.g. heart problems, severe blood
pressure, joint injury, fractures, pregnancy, etc.)
The languages of the western world have developed from one original
tongue. No written
record exists of this mother tongue, but strong similarities between
words in different
western languages, called Indo-European languages, point to a common
origin.
The oldest languages of the Indo-European family are Sanskrit (2000
B.C.), Greek (800
B.C.) and Latin (500 B.C.) French is a direct descendant of Latin,
and about half of
English words come from French. The Anglo-Saxon side of English,
related to German,
is also part of the big Indo-European family.
Janu means knee. In French, the word for knee is genou, and is
similarly pronounced like janu. In the Glossary of Light on Yoga I
saw another strong connection. Mrta is Sanskrit for dead or corpse.
In French, mort means death or dead and then goes on into English to
show up again in mortuary (a place for the dead).
This style of
yoga focuses on the “Yin” elements of life. Yin Yoga is the relaxed
practice of floor postures for three to five minutes at a time. It
is the ideal complement to more energetic “Yang” forms of Yoga such
as Power Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, advanced balancing asanas.
A Yin practice emphasizes the connective tissues of the hips,
thighs, pelvis and lower spine. In this way it prepares the body and
the mind for longer meditation practices. By drawing the student’s
awareness away from the muscles and deeper into the bones a deep
level of relaxed focus is achieved.
Flexibility is gained through holding the postures for at least 3
min and developing comfort in the asana. Practicing Yin Yoga is also
a good way to release stress and calm the mind.
What will be covered in this 4 hr workshop?
Skeletal
system and joints (Theory)
