What is Yoga for you?

What is Yoga for you?

Yoga for me was always a sanctuary where I could disappear for a few hours, away from my hectic work where no one could find me, I was invisible…if only for a fraction of my day. Over the years it has become an important part of my daily life that I would make excuses to finish work earlier just to catch the 6.30 pm class or I would over-prioritize my yoga practices to other mundane work priorities. I always thought the “positive” feelings I felt after it was due to the fact that my body has been exercised and everyone know we all feel good after exercising. As I progressed into my practice I feel that I get something a bit more from yoga, I something that I don’t get in my other exercises, no matter how much I ran or calories I burnt, I find that yoga gives me an inner stability that affects my emotions and moods, the way I balance and juggle my work and it just became part of my life. Going to yoga class or practicing at home often became just another activity, I don’t think about it I just do it.  I could never understand or link the physical and spiritual attributes that is all part of yoga that all yogis preached about, how the mind and body will eventually work as its intended to. Even though I wanted to believe it I couldn’t justify it. I see so many of my close friends and family became ill at work all the time, or leading such a sedentary lifestyle that for the longest time I feel helpless around them. If I could just somehow help them in any way I would grab the opportunity.

I hope that after this journey in my yoga practice I will have more confidence and knowledge to share what I’ve learnt to my friends and family, and to improve their lifestyle. Enjoy some of these yoga quotes!

“Yoga is almost like music in a way; there’s no end to it” Sting

“Yoga is an internal practice, the rest is just a circus” Sri Pattabhi Jois

“The word “yoga” literally means “uniting”, because when you’re doing it you are uniting your mind and your body. You can tell this almost immediately because your mind will be thinking, “Ouch, that hurts,” and your body will say, “I know.” And your mind will think, “You have to get out of this position.” And your body will say, “I agree with you, but I can’t right now. I think I’m stuck.” Ellen Degeneres

“You cannot do yoga. Yoga is your natural state. What you can do are yoga exercises, which may reveal to you where you are resisting your natural state.” Sharon Gannon

“Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit. When one is free from physical disabilities and mental distractions, the gates of the soul open.” B.K.S Iyengar
