Pre Natal Development

Pre Natal and Antenatal development is the process in which a human embryo or fetus gestates during pregnancy, from fertilization until birth.

Months 1 to 3

  • Baby is an embryo consisting of 2 layers of cells from which all the organs and body parts will develop
  • The baby is now the size of a kidney bean and is constantly moving, having distinct and slightly webbed fingers
  • The growth of the baby is about 3 inches long and weighs nearly an ounce, tiny and unique fingerprints are now in place.

Months 4 to 6

  • The baby is now about 5 inches long weighing 5 ounces, the skeleton is starting to harden from rubbery cartilage to bone
  • Eyebrows and eyelids are now in place
  • The wrinkled skin is starting to smooth out as the baby puts on baby fat

Months 7 to 9

  • The weight of the baby is about 3 pounds and is more than 15 inches long with the eyes open and close, following a light
  • The layers of fat are filling the baby out, getting rounder and lungs are well developed
  • The average baby is more than 19 inches long and weighs nearly 7 pounds now, babies vary widely in size at this stage
  • Organs have matured and the baby is ready for life outside the womb
