Ayurveda

Last month I joined Tirisula at an Ayurveda retreat up in the mountains outside of Connor in the south of India. It was so quiet and peaceful there. You could hear the birds sing, the air was crisp and clear and at night you could see the stars in a clear sky. Except for our yoga practice we got to learn about Ayurveda.

I wanted to share with you some thoughts about Ayurveda and the connection to nature that I found so interesting. Let me start with a very small part of the philosophy. According to them our body is made out of the five elements. Space, Air, Water, Fire and Earth. The same five elements make up the universe. So you can say that whatever is in the universe is also inside every one of us. So there is a clear link between what Nature has to offer us and what is good for our bodies and health. Let me give you a few examples of how linked together we really are. Take a look at the photos below and you will see the resemblance between what nature has to offer us and the organs we have inside our bodies.

Apples are good for the heart Grapes are good for our lungs

There are so many more examples than what I have posted here. Therefore next time you see a plant or a vegetable, take a minute and think about what it might resemble or look like. Eat it with the belief that it will do you good in more ways than just keeping your stomach full.

Is it not clever?!
